DG-DGGE analysis for the structures of indigenous microbial consortia in four sites of Ariake Sea in four seasons exhibited that Ariake Sea tideland had a stable bacterial community rich in sulfate-reducing bacteria and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria.
Furthermore, the genotyping of Vibrio vulnificus from patients, Ariake Sea, Ise/Mikawa bay and Karatsu bay showed that the virulent strains tended to be detected at high rates in Ariake Sea similar to in patients.
